Aldi formed its partnership with Lifetime in 2017, and together we have gone on to successfully upskill over 2,000 learners, harness £2 million of the levy, and completely transform the retailer’s apprenticeship offer.

Aldi’s apprenticeships increase retention by 7%

As one of the UK’s fastest-growing supermarkets, Aldi has ambitious plans for the future. Large-scale investment will see the retailer expand its portfolio to 1,200 stores by 2025, creating opportunities for people all over the UK.

As a result of empowering learners and investing in skills, Aldi has reported colleagues are more content with their jobs (a reported 7% increase in retention for Store Assistants, and 5% for Deputy Store Managers).

Aldi’s ambitious expansion plans for their academy style learning

At the heart of this growth is its people, and since Aldi chose to partner with Lifetime in 2017 it has been consistently recognised for the quality of its approach to apprenticeship training. The commitment to upskilling learners using an ‘Academy’ style approach across both Level 2 and 3 Retail programmes has put Aldi in the Top 50 rated apprenticeship employers in the UK for over five years. 

As Aldi works towards its ambitious expansion plan, the Lifetime partnership will grow with it to continue to reshape how apprenticeships work. We will build on the successes of the Retail programme, to recruit, train and retrain more of its people and introduce training programmes for roles in the Warehouse part of the operation. Together, we’ll bring a democracy of opportunity to even more people across this dynamic, fast-moving business.
