The Youth and Community Support Apprentice will help High Oak Youth and Community Centre create a welcoming, engaging and safe environment for the local community. Working alongside experienced staff and volunteers, they will support activities shaped by the interests and needs of children, young people and wider community members.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
● Helping plan, prepare and deliver wellbeing, sport, environmental and food-growing activities.
● Supporting youth sessions, mentoring, the development of a girls’ football team and bike club activities.
● Encouraging participants to share ideas, try new experiences and take an active role in their community. support national and international programmes.
● Building positive relationships with young people, families, seniors and volunteers.
● Preparing equipment and activity spaces, welcoming participants and helping clear up after sessions.
● Supporting food and community projects with dignity and respect.
● Helping record attendance, gather feedback and promote upcoming activities.
● Following safeguarding, health and safety, and equality procedures, and reporting concerns to the appropriate staff member.
The apprentice will receive guidance and supervision while developing practical skills in youth and community work. Their contribution will help people build confidence, connect with others and access opportunities within their local community.
This apprenticeship is part-funded and supported by Coach Core's charitable programme, creating employment opportunities for 16–24-year-olds who have faced barriers to education, employment or career progression. We support young people with the potential to succeed who may have experienced financial disadvantage, additional learning needs, caring responsibilities or other personal or socio-economic challenges. No previous experience is required – we're looking for enthusiasm, potential and a willingness to learn. Coach Core provides additional support throughout the apprenticeship, while the employer is responsible for the final recruitment decision.
