We are looking for a motivated and friendly Apprentice Receptionist to join our Practice team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a healthcare setting while developing valuable administrative and communication skills.
You will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a welcoming and efficient service both in person, over the phone, and online. Full training will be provided.
Key duties:
Patient Access & Appointments
● Support patients with booking appointments via phone, online systems (Anima), and face-to-face
● Book appointments with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
● Help manage urgent requests under supervision
● Record home visit requests accurately
Reception & Customer Service
● Provide a friendly and professional front desk service
● Handle general enquiries and direct patients appropriately
● Register new patients and explain Practice procedures
● Answer calls, take messages, and pass on information accurately
● Process payments for private services when required
Administrative Support
● Learn to use Practice systems such as EMIS, Docman, iPlato, and NHS Mail
● Update patient records and complete routine admin tasks
● Prepare clinic lists and documentation
● Support the wider team with day-to-day tasks
General Responsibilities
● Help open or close the Practice when required
● Maintain a clean, safe, and organised reception area
● Work as part of a team and support colleagues when needed

● Handle patient information sensitively and confidentially
● Follow Practice policies, including safeguarding and data protection
Health, Safety & Equality
● Follow health and safety procedures and infection control guidance
● Treat all patients and colleagues with respect and dignity

Training & Development
● Take part in an apprenticeship training programme
● Attend regular reviews and complete coursework
● Develop skills in communication, IT systems, and customer service

What your apprenticeship includes:
- You won’t need to attend college, our apprenticeships are delivered through work based training which includes a mixture of face-to-face sessions and remote Team calls with your Lifetime Learner Coach every 6 weeks. You will also have a mentor within the workplace to support you.
- Obtain Functional Skills in English and Maths (if you don’t already have GCSE or equivalents)
- Reviews every 12 weeks with the Apprentice, Line Manager and Lifetime Learner Coach including feedback sessions.
At Wells Medical Practice, you will be working towards a Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 Qualification over the course of 15 months.
