Improvement Specialists are the people who make operations measurably better. They use data and proven improvement methods, including Lean Six Sigma, to find what is really driving performance, design changes that stick, and coach the people around them to solve problems for good. This level 5 apprenticeship gives your managers that discipline: a new direction for leadership built on evidence rather than instinct, with a real workplace project that delivers measurable value before the programme ends.
Designed for operational leaders
For experienced managers and leaders responsible for performance in any organisation, whatever the sector. If you recognise roles like operations manager, team leader, service or delivery manager, project lead or continuous improvement lead, or you are growing into one, this builds the discipline behind them. It suits people ready to formalise how they drive improvement and lead change, not just manage day to day.
Real world skills. Real world impact.
The programme is built to be recognised and practical. It is grounded in Lean Six Sigma, the improvement approach employers know and recruit for, and it builds in the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in the workplace, so apprentices apply current tools to real problems as they learn. [Coaching certificate: add here once confirmed.]
Blended learning model
A dedicated Learning Coach supports every apprentice throughout, with one-to-one sessions every four to six weeks. Alongside that, expert-led webinars, skills days and technical sessions build the knowledge and skills, with structured independent learning applied to the workplace project in between.
Assessed through a workplace improvement project
A real improvement project runs as a practical thread through the whole programme. Apprentices apply what they learn to a genuine challenge in your organisation, building the portfolio of evidence they need for end-point assessment (EPA): a professional discussion underpinned by that portfolio, and an examination based on case studies. It also means you do not have to take impact on trust: the return shows up in your own business, before the programme even ends.
Structured across 11 modules built on the DMAIC method (define, measure, analyse, improve, control), the programme develops:
Using data to find what is really driving performance, and the tools to test what works before you invest in it.
Finding and cutting the activity that adds cost or delay without adding value, from duplicated admin and rework to slow handovers.
Designing your highest-risk and highest-cost processes so mistakes are caught before they reach the customer.
Mapping a process from end to end to remove bottlenecks and hold a consistent standard, wherever the work happens.
Bringing people with you so new ways of working are adopted for good, not abandoned once attention moves on.
Getting to the true cause of persistent problems, from rising costs to inconsistent quality, and fixing them for good.
