Support the people we care for with daily living, wellbeing and independence, communicate with families and professionals, and help people with dignity and choice.

As an Apprentice Support Worker, you will work as part of the care team to support the people we care for in their everyday lives. This may include helping with daily routines, meals, appointments, social activities, community access and developing independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking and self-care.

You will learn how to provide safe, respectful and person-centred support, while promoting choice, dignity, wellbeing and independence. The role also involves communicating with families, colleagues and external professionals, attending training and meetings, and keeping accurate records.

This apprenticeship is an important part of the organisation’s care service, helping ensure each person receives consistent, compassionate and high-quality support based on their individual needs.

Desired Skills

Basic IT and written communication skills are required to complete records, reports and training. Should be willing to learn care planning, safeguarding, health and wellbeing support, professional boundaries, confidentiality and safe working practices. Good communication, listening and teamwork skills. Able to build positive relationships, respond calmly and professionally and follow guidance.

Personal qualities

Kind, patient, compassionate, reliable and respectful. Must be caring, trustworthy, willing to learn, and committed to promoting dignity, choice and independence.

No formal qualifications required
Basic literacy and numeracy are beneficial

Future prospects

The apprenticeship can support progression within adult social care, including opportunities to apply for permanent care roles and senior support roles. It may also provide useful experience for further training in wider health and social care careers, depending on the apprentice’s interests, performance and future qualifications.

Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship L2 including Functional Skills in Maths and English
