Government allocates £20million to apprenticeships in the Care sector

2 minutes

Lifetime collaborate with many of the UK's leading care providers across the UK, including Care UK, HC-One and Bupa to attract new talent, develop core competencies, and deliver high quality, impactful care. However, as a training provider, we are often hindered by funding and legislation barriers that make it difficult for care providers to develop the skills they need, when they need them.

There is, however, good news on the horizon - in a bid to provide more support to the industry and attract more staff to the sector, The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has allocated an extra £20million in funding for Care apprenticeships to upskill existing employees and offer training to new starters to the industry.

The £20million apprenticeship funding will have the objective to boost retention in the industry and create more defined and progressive Career Pathways, as well as attract new talent to the Care sector.

Benefits of Apprenticeships in the Care sector
Fill vacancies
9.9% of social care roles went unfilled in 2023. Lifetime have over 18,000 apprentices apply to us each year and have a larger apprentice candidate base than any other training provider.
Increase your employee retention
By delivering more robust training, we'll help you improve your Care employee's retention rates. In fact, 65% Of our Care apprentices are still working with their employer after a year and 60% after 2 years.
Improve standard of care
Apprenticeships develop a standardised competency level across your workforce that's influenced by Skills for Care, helping you to standardise your care practices to best practices.
Offer training and support to your employees
By offering practical, hands-on training, your employees will have more skills to deliver excellent care. To further support to Care employees suffering with burnout and stress, we offer our Learner Helpline, a 24/7 hotline which provides emotional, financial and personal support to all of our apprentices on programme with us.

“Since working with Lifetime, we’ve been able to take our provision to the next level. We’ve built on our strategy for training excellence, so our colleagues are equipped with the skills to deliver the best quality care possible. We’re growing and retaining our internal talent, with career pathways that make a real impact on our workforce development.”

- Nikki Evans, Head of Learning and Development at Care UK
