Wallsend Boys Club & Sporting Wallsend has been working with the Wallsend & North Tyneside community for over 100 years. We use the power of Sport & football to change the lives of local people across or local community, particularly the most hard-to-reach and hard-to-help. We work with over 800 people each week, inspiring them to find a better path and to lead a healthier life.
As an Apprentice joining our Sport Development Team, you’d support our staff to create safer, stronger and more inclusive communities, using sports participation to engage those hardest to reach youngsters and achieve positive change.
Roles and Responsibilities
● Deliver safe, fun, and engaging sessions, to help enthuse, educate, and motivate our audience.
● Lead and support on the delivery of engaging football and multisport activities in areas of deprivation.
● Effectively engage with under-resourced young people (ages 8-18) at sessions; acting as a positive role model to inspire, motivate and empower young people to realise their potential.
● Support coaches, sessional staff and volunteers to ensure that sessions are delivered to the highest quality.
● Ensure all aspects of safeguarding are integrated across the delivery of the project and all activities are delivered in a safe and suitable manner.
● Deliver fun and engaging football sessions and fixtures during the holiday periods as part of the HAF programme.
● Support in the creation and delivery of workshops and activities to educate and empower participants, female empowerment and mental well-being.
● Support with the delivery of social action projects, tournaments and other events.
● Ensure all participants attending the sessions are registered correctly and data is collected in accordance with GDPR principles.
● Ensure that all data is collected and processed correctly and accurately, is up to date and uploaded to our online monitoring system.
● Survey participants attending sessions to gauge feedback on activities and to demonstrate the impact of the project.
● Support monitoring returns and constantly review the programme to ensure the project achieves its desired outcomes.
● Attend additional training and CPD opportunities linked to the role.
● Work flexible hours, covering evening and weekend work
What your apprenticeship includes:
● A mixture of face to face and online catch ups every 4 - 6 weeks to discuss feedback and progress
● A mixture of on and off the job training, including workshops and webinars
● Reviews every 12 weeks with your Line Manager and apprenticeship Trainer
● The chance to get Functional Skills in English and maths (if you don’t already have GCSE)

As an apprentice with Wallsend Boys you will be studying towards a 15-month qualification that will be the Community Coach Activator Level 2 Apprenticeship
Desired Skills
This is an apprenticeship programme, designed to help you gain skills and experience ‘on the job.’ We aren’t looking for any previous coaching qualifications or experience but certain personal qualities and characteristics are a must. Successful applicants will be assisting and delivering sport and physical activity sessions in the community. Your sessions may be the highlight of their week- so you will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, energetic and committed!
Personal qualities
You must be enthusiastic about wanting to work within the sport and physical activity sector and be committed to inspiring others to be more physically active. No prior coaching experience is required, but a willingness to learn, work hard and challenge yourself is essential.
Qualifications required
Missed out on getting your Maths and English GCSE’s? Don’t worry- you can still apply but you will need to complete Functional Skills Level 2 before you finish the apprenticeship. Our Learning Coaches can support you with this so don’t let this put you off!
