Magna Vitae are looking for an enthusiastic Leisure Team Member Apprentice to deliver a high quality service in alignment with their mission, vision, and core values.

This is a varied role including lifeguarding, fitness instructing, swim teaching, and supervising a variety of sporting activities.

Magna Vitae are looking for an enthusiastic new apprentice to join them at the Meridian Leisure Centre!

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and effective supervision of programmed and un-programmed sessions including the instruction of a range of fitness and sporting activities, as well as delivering high quality service in accordance with Magna Vitae's mission, vision, and core values.

You will be working towards your Level 2 Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship over the course of 12-18 months. As part of the apprenticeship, you will also be supported in achieving your National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), First Aid at Work, Level 2 Swimming Teaching and Level 2 Fitness Qualification.

Your duties will include:

Compliance with policies, standing orders, financial regulations, employee code of conduct, and company procedures.
Maintaining, at all times, high standards of customer service and care.
Communicating effectively with customers, visitors, and colleagues.
Working as part of the lifeguard team and supervising the pools as part of the lifeguard rotation system.
Supervising both programmed and un-programmed activities of the venue, ensuring service provided is of a high quality.
Intervening to prevent unsafe behaviour and identifying emergencies quickly, taking appropriate action including completing accident reports, and administering first aid as necessary.
Carrying out cleaning duties, ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and fit for purpose, and immediately reporting deficiencies to management.
Setting up equipment for activities in a safe manner, and ensuring equipment is safe for use.
Adhering to Health and Safety procedures, risk assessments, and the facility NOP/EAP.
Maintaining personal competency to achieve targets identified and agreed through the Personal Development Review programme.
Providing cover at other facilities as and when required, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Undertaking any further duties as required of the role.

Your apprenticeship will involve:

A hands-on approach to learning without the expectation to attend college.
A mixture of face to face and virtual catch ups with an industry specialist coach every 4 - 6 weeks to discuss feedback and progress.
A mixture of on and off the job training, including workshops and webinars.
Dedicated time each week for your learning, operating on a 20% off the job basis.

Desired Skills

• Strong verbal communication. • Able to maintain a professional manner when dealing with both difficult and sensitive situations. • Able to work towards and consistently meet membership sales targets. • A keen eye for detail, able to maintain high concentration while on duty, reacting swiftly to potential hazards to prevent accidents or serious injury. • Able to meet tight timescales when setting up equipment. • Understanding of presentation standards expected across the facility.

Personal qualities

Able to follow manual handling guidelines when moving and setting up sports equipment.
Friendly and engaging with customers, practicing a customer-led approach at all times.
Confident and able to work as part of a team, attending team meetings when required.
Able to use initiative when working alone.
Comfortable occasionally working under inclement weather conditions.

Qualifications required

GCSE Maths and English at a Grade C/Level 4 or above.
NPLQ qualified (supported through apprenticeship)

Future prospects

Magna Vitae intend to offer full-time employment after completion of the apprenticeship. Should a full-time role be offered, there will be opportunities to progress within the organisation to a Supervisor, Swim Teacher, or Front of House.

Opportunities to work across other locations operated by Magna Vitae will also be available.
