Adventure Sunderland
Supporting and leading groups on our indoor and outdoor activities. Groups are predominantly made up of 8-16 year olds. Activities will include water sports, rock climbing and many more. Work will include managing well organized and presentable equipment stores, kitting up clients with appropriate personal protective equipment, site maintenance, admin duties and activity sessions..

Your primary role will be to support groups and centre staff in our busy and dynamic water sports centre. We will aim to mentor you and develop your skills to become responsible and safety conscious enough to manage your own groups on the water independently.
You must be professional in your nature and uphold Adventure Sunderland's charitable aims and values at all times.
You should be comfortable interacting with schools and youth groups.
The average day at Adventure Sunderland starts with organising equipment stores in preparation for groups arrival.
Meet and greet your group for the day.
During activity times you can expect to be out on the water in all weathers supporting groups and centre staff.
Upon finishing activities re organise all used equipment so it is ready for the next groups arrival.

What your apprenticeship includes:
A mixture of face to face and online catch ups every 4 - 6 weeks to discuss feedback and progress
A mixture of on and off the job training, including workshops and webinars
Reviews every 12 weeks with your Line Manager and apprenticeship Trainer
The chance to get Functional Skills in English and maths (if you don’t already have GCSE)


At Adventure Sunderland you will work towards your Community Activator Coach L2 Apprenticeship Qualification over the course of 12-18 Months.

Desired Skills

Applicants don't necessarily need any watersports or technical skills in this role, however a keen interest and willingness to learn would be beneficial.

Personal qualities

Applicants should be and responsible and approachable. Confident and outgoing when interacting with clients.
Due to the nature of the job it would be advantageous to be fit and active to meet the physically demanding nature of the role.

Qualifications required

Missed out on getting your Maths and English GCSE’s? Don’t worry- you can still apply but you will need to complete Functional Skills Level 2 before you finish the apprenticeship. Our Learning Coaches can support you with this so don’t let this put you off!

Future prospects

The successful candidate will have the oppurtunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in paddlesports.
Upon gaining qualifications and competence there will be an additional pay rise to reflect the added responsibility of leading groups independently.

We work with schools, colleges, university students, scouting and youth groups to achieve these aims.



We are open to the public and also cater for individual private sessions.
